SACS Reaffirmation

Welcome to the SACS Reaffirmation 2010 Web Site

Dear Colleagues:

Welcome to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) reaffirmation Web site for Texas State University. During the AY 2009-2010, we will submit our Compliance Certification Report and be visited by an On-Site Review Committee, in preparation for final action on our reaffirmation in December 2010.  However, many of the initiatives and process improvements we will highlight in our SACS reaffirmation documentation have been years in the making, and we are indebted to the many members of our university community for their contributions toward our continuous improvement efforts.

Regional accreditation is important to Texas State for many reasons. As stated in the COC mission statement, “when an institution has earned accreditation by the Commission on Colleges, it signifies that the institution (1) has a mission appropriate to higher education, (2) has resources, programs, and services sufficient to accomplish and sustain that mission, and (3) maintains clearly specified education objectives that are consistent with its mission and appropriate to the degrees it offers, and that indicate whether it is successful in achieving its stated objectives.”  The Commission’s assurance that we deliver quality programs to our students determines our eligibility for Title IV funds (student financial aid), and COC’s efforts to influence legislation and regulations that impact member institutions assist us in accomplishing our work and maintaining our integrity.

We who are members of the Texas State family are all responsible for the outcome of our reaffirmation of accreditation.  Many of you provided information for our formal SACS audit that occurred last year and are now making improvements where necessary.  I know that you will continue to work with those leading our reaffirmation effort so that our final outcome will be a positive one.

This Web site provides helpful information about the many facets of reaffirmation we are currently addressing.  I hope that you will take time to review materials included here and feel free to contact members of our various committees with any questions.  Thank you again for your contributions to Texas State and our SACS reaffirmation endeavor.

                                                                        Sincerely,
