Texas State University Goals Review
For 2012-2017 Planning Cycle
Deadline for Submitting Comments is May 2, 2011
Purpose of a University Goal
Goals provide the framework for long-range major accomplishments the university wants to achieve during the life of the plan. Goals must support the university mission and must be challenging, but realistic and achievable. The current university goals and intended outcomes may be viewed at 2012 Extended Plan Goals and Intended Outcomes.
Please note: We are only reviewing university goals at the present time. Intended outcomes will be reviewed in Fall 2012 after the President’s Cabinet approves goals for the 2012-2017 university plan.
University Goals Review Process
President Trauth encourages chairs and directors to meet with colleagues within your department or unit to respond to the questions below. Individuals may also submit feedback. So that you have plenty of time for discussion, the deadline for submitting feedback is Monday, May 2, the last day of classes.
You may copy and paste your answers to the three questions below into University Goals Feedback. Do not send feedback to the provost’s office. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Cathy Fleuriet, Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness, at cf07@txstate.edu.
After information has been gathered, a university goals review committee will construct a draft of the revised goals using your input, as well as input from university leadership. The revised draft goals will then be presented to the university community for review.
Please note that your feedback should not include “wordsmithing” of the current goals. Include only major concepts or content that should be considered.
1. Is there any goal(s) that should be included in the 2012-2017 university plan that is not listed in our current goal statements?
2. Is there any goal(s) in the current university plan that should be deleted from the 2012-2017 university plan?
3. Should we keep the same goals for the 2012-2017 university plan that we have in the current plan? If so, note here “no changes.”
